It's okay, Really it's okay., May 7, 2009

I had to read this book for my government class and I knew I had all these preconceived notions about Sarah Palin. That's why I chose to read about her. The book is really good for quick information, but Palin's life is so much more interesting this. Furthermore, perhaps it's too short, it doesn't go as "in-depth" as James proclaims it to be. I also felt this book was a bit biased and hero worship-y. I'd call this a pocket guide. It seems like a book a journalist would keep in their pocket at a conference for quick reference, but to fully appreciate an unbiased view of Sarah Palin's achievements I strongly recommend another book. Trailblazer: an Intimate Biography of Sarah Palin is a very good one.

Praise for "The Real Deal", October 6, 2008

Finally, a book that comes out and gives us the personal story about Sarah Palin and puts her story in the context of this election. At last, I can hear the truth behind the rhetoric that the biased media throws our way on a daily basis. This book is jammed pack with heartfelt stories about the woman behind the political candidacy as well as documented information behind the landslide of partial truths being served up at a rapid pace.

G. Robert James has done a fantastic job at personalizing this amazing, courageous woman. Before reading his book, I was intrigued by Sarah Palin but now I am in awe of her. If you want to finally read the facts and not just the blitz of negativity the left-wing continues to spew, buy this book. You won't regret it! It is short and to the point. You can read it in 30 minutes or less. And what is 30 minutes to learn the truth about a viable candidate in inarguably the most important election this nation has ever faced.

Waste of Time, January 30, 2010

When is someone going to tell the truth about this empty suit (yes, a woman can be an empty suit)? This book just regurgitates the myths (and lies) Sarah and her worshippers keep trying to pass off as truth. No one can deny Sarah Palin is a good looking woman, but that's almost where the truth of this book ends. She is a media whore who will do anything for minute of fame or a dollar of wealth. While she decries the supposed double standard-she skates along only because of her looks. No man who was as shallow as she is could get away with as much (even Dan Quayle graduated from law school and passed a bar exam). She may not be stupid, but certainly her comments and actions (omitted or glossed over in this book) show she is not the least bit intellectually curious. Worse, her "world view" does not extend beyond her front porch.
Her values are not those of family and country, but of money and fame. Her conservative politics are a joke. The book ignores the hypocrisy and contrast of supposedly being a champion for smaller government, while fighting for and taking millions of dollars in federal "pork" for Wasilla and Alaska. She didn't care about the deficit or smaller government-she just had her hand out, saying "gimme, gimme, gimme" so long as it made her look good. As for saving Alaskans money (sell the jet, fire the chef)- who charges the state for sleeping in your own house and eating your own food? Who demands reimbursement for your children's travel? Why didn't the book cover these "refreshing" ideas?
As for her politics, sure, she probably believes that the difference between a community organizanizer and a small town mayor is that the mayor has "actual responsibilities," but that trite remark seems a bit hypocritical shen she ditched her jobs as governor and mother of five children, one with special needs, to run for VP with the promise of a lucrative book deal (that required no work of her) and a $150,000 wardrobe. Abandoning the state of Alaska in the middle of her term was simply shameful. Sarah seems to be able to muster up passion only for Sarah and don't get in her way.
In short, there is nothing "refreshing" about either Sarah Palin or this book. She is a typical politician and this book is a typical whitewash of her character. Save your money. If you must read this "cheerleading for a cheerleader" book, check it out from the library or wait till it appears in the dollar bin at your local bookstore. Otherwise, don't waste your money.

"Deal" or "No Deal?" This is the REAL Deal!, October 6, 2008

by John C. Looper

Although this small book is not a biography in the normal sense of the word it does give the reader a quick overview of Governor Palin and the impact she is having on the 2008 Presidential election. It highlights her political accomplishments in Alaska and explores her personal and political history. I believe it is an attempt by the author to help the reader to understand the sociological factors that shaped Palin's personality and her political philosophy. I found it to be a quick, interesting and informative read. I highly recommend this book as a way toward acquiring a more balanced insight into this amazing woman.

If you want to see Sarah Palin in all of her glory go and check her out on You Tube and see that she's a real idiot! A bird brain that's really funny and a scary at the same time.

P.S. I didn't need crib notes for this review.
